We like to think we are invincible but we have to remember to care for ourselves.

As a woman and a nurse I try to live in a way that will keep me healthy and prolong my life and my ability to function at an elderly age. I, like many other women try to eat right, exercise, have gratitude, compassion and optimism and I keep my mind active. But I think we need to consider more…

As women we need to focus on preventing disease for ourselves, our sisters and daughters. This concept is equally important as eating the right foods, exercising, getting enough sleep and nurturing our bodies and minds. Why is lung cancer one of the primary cancers killing women? Why does heart disease contribute to 50% of the deaths of women? Are we not taking care of ourselves or is something happening in our environment to cause changes in our health?

Women face health changes today that they have never faced before. Women are the caretakers, the nurturers for their family and friends. In our generation there is a lot to be concerned about- children, parents, careers, and the daily living agenda. We have to care for ourselves and not forget that we are important too. It is somewhat unnatural for women to think of themselves first but when it comes to health it must be done.

Healthy Woman is a work in progress. I want to share my thoughts, help to educate you about health choices, and inform you based on my personal experience as a nurse and health instructor.
